A large gathering of child advocates attended the signing of the proclamation by Pickens County Commissioner, Robert Jones, declaring April as Child Abuse Awareness month.

Each April, Prevent Child Abuse Pickens (PCAP) distributes pinwheels which are planted throughout Pickens County. last year 65 merchants displayed pinwheels and collected donations. There were also 15 outdoor ‘pinwheel gardens’ to promote awareness.

Through the display of pinwheels and pinwheel gardens throughout Pickens County, we hope to create a stronger awareness of the reality of the problem of child abuse throughout this area and what we are doing to stop it before it starts. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these pinwheels will go directly to Prevent Child Abuse Pickens, which currently educates and supports young families throughout Pickens County. Through our Footsteps for Families and Parents As Teachers programs, we help families with the hope of a better future for their children.
